Kentucky approves first medical marijuana dispensary for operations. Here’s where

Kentucky’s first medical marijuana dispensary is expected to open its doors in Fall 2025.

In a post on social media, Gov. Andy Beshear said The Post Dispensary in Beaver Dam became the commonwealth’s first medical marijuana dispensary to be approved for operations.

“This is another step forward as we work to ensure Kentuckians with serious medical conditions have access to the medicine they need and deserve,” he wrote in the post.

A precise opening date for the dispensary is unclear. The owners of the business have not yet responded to a request for comment.

Medical marijuana business license holders have been working toward meeting all regulatory requirements to get the greenlight for operations since licenses were awarded through a lottery process in 2024

Beshear announced earlier in July that Armory Kentucky LLC, a cultivator in Mayfield, became the first in its class of medical marijuana businesses to begin operations in Kentucky after passing its facility inspection.

“This administration made a commitment to Kentuckians suffering from cancer, PTSD, multiple sclerosis and other eligible conditions, and I am proud we are making progress to deliver safe, affordable access to medical cannabis,” Beshear said in a July 15 news release. “Through work with the General Assembly to move up business licensing by six full months and providing licensees with the tools they need to get up and running, we are closer than ever to providing Kentuckians with life-changing relief.”
